Overview

Toolkit Navbars are pre-made navigation bars in D2L that you can use to simplify your course and customize the D2L features your students have access to. All Toolkit Navbars remove access to the default course homepage, and are instead intended to be used alongside a Toolkit Homepage. Together, these provide an easy way to simplify the tools available in your course. For example, by applying Toolkit Navbar: Content + Grades alongside Toolkit Homepage: Content, your students will only have access to those two pages in your course.

The steps below explain how to apply a Toolkit Navbar to your course. After following these steps, visit our tutorial on Toolkit Homepages to change your course homepage to match your Toolkit Navbar. For more information, visit the D2L Course Layout page.

Step 1

Click Edit Course.

Step 2

Click Navigation & Themes.

Step 3

Click the dropdown menu under Active Navbar.

Step 4

Select the Toolkit Navbar you wish to use from the dropdown menu. Each Toolkit Navbar provides access to a different set of course tools. For example, if you want your students to only have access to Content and Grades, choose Toolkit Navbar: Content + Grades.

Step 5

Click Apply. Your new Toolkit Navbar will appear in your course immediately. Next, visit D2L - Applying a Toolkit Homepage to select a homepage to go with your new Navbar. Note that Toolkit Navbars do not provide a link to the default course homepage, but are intended to be used with a Toolkit Homepage.

Step 6

You can always revert back to the default course navigation bar by repeating these steps and choosing -- Default -- from the Active Navbar dropdown menu.
