D2L - Add Accessible HTML Template to Course

Overview

The following instructions demonstrate the process of adding the accessible html content template to your Desire2Learn course.

Step 1

Download the accessible html template.

*Note: You will need to uncompress the .zip file to access the html template.

Step 2

Log into Desire2Learn and open your desired course.

Step 3

Click on Content, located in the Navbar.

Step 4

Select the Table of Contents to view all course content.

Step 5

In the module area you would like the template, select the Upload Files from the New drop-down menu.

Step 6

In the Add a file window that appears, click the Upload button and select the Accessible_html_template.html file.

Step 7

Click Add.

Step 8

The template will now be uploaded. Click on the new content topic created, named the Accessible_html_template.html.

*Note: Every new created html file in D2L becomes a document template to be used with other content. Reference the Using the Accessible HTML Template tutorial for more information.

Step 9

The template demonstrates different heading levels and how they appear. Using these headers to order content when creating items in D2L will ensure screen reader compatibility.

Step 10

In order to have the template not appear for students, you should hide it. To hide the topic in the Content area:

  • Scroll to the bottom of the of the page.
  • Select Draft/Hidden from the drop-down menu with Published/Visible currently selected.

Step 11

The template will be hidden from most users, but available for use in future content items.
