The following documentation demonstrates how to create an honor code question for an online exam. The goal of using the honor code in your exam is to remind students that academic integrity in coursework is of the utmost importance to the university community.

Step 1

After logging into your course, open the Assessments drop-down menu and click on Quizzes.

Step 2

Click on the drop-down menu icon next to the quiz you would like to add the honor code question to and select Edit.

Step 3

Select Add/Edit questions.

Step 4

Choose Short Answer Question (SA) from the New drop-down menu.

Step 5

Make sure that there is a 1 in the Points field, (*note that later in the tutorial, settings will change so that students will not get any points for this question). Enter the honor code statement of your choice in the Question Text field. You can find the CU honor code here.

In the Answer field, type a fake name. It is important that it is unique so students don’t accidentally guess the “answer” and receive points. Next, set the Weight to 100%. Then click Save.

Step 6

Select the honor code question then click the Edit Values button.

Step 7

Check the Bonus box and the Mandatory box. Then click Save.
