Overview

As part of the effort to educate CU Boulder about the new LMS on campus, OIT offers workshops and consultations to get you started with Canvas!

Training Sessions

This page outlines the workshops that the Learning Technology Consultants (LTC) in the Academic Technology Applications Program (ATAP) provides to CU Boulder faculty and staff. Session Descriptions

Canvas Showcase: What’s different between D2L and Canvas?

Description: This one hour demonstration is designed for faculty and staff who have used Desire2Learn in the past and are looking to learn more about Canvas and its affordances. The session will provide users with an overview of Canvas’s features while also modeling continuities between Desire2Learn and Canvas.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • State affordances of Canvas.
  • State where they can find Canvas support.

BYOC: Introduction to Teaching with Canvas

Description: This training is designed for instructors and staff who are ready to start developing courses in Canvas. Topics covered in this two-hour training include: basic navigation, creating announcements, uploading and managing course content, communicating with students, assignments, quizzes, discussions, student groups, calendars, and course analytics.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to: 

  • Navigate Canvas (Global Navigation, Dashboard, Profile, Course Navigation, Help Menu).  
  • Communicate with students (Announcements, Inbox, and Notifications).
  • Create and edit Calendar Events and Assignments.  
  • Organize their course (Modules).
  • Share course material (Pages, File Manager, Publish, View the course as a student).
  • Enter grades for students (Grades, Speedgrader, and Rubrics).
  • Monitor the course and students (course statistics and student analytics).
  • State where they find Canvas support.

BYOC: Course Migration Support

Description: This two hour training includes guided assistance to help instructors who want to migrate their courses themselves through the process of moving their existing Desire2Learn courses to Canvas, as well as drop-in support for instructors to adjust their course with assistance on hand.

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Navigate Canvas (Global Navigation, Dashboard, Profile, Course Navigation, Help Menu).  
  • Migrate their course content from D2L to Canvas.
  • Copy course components from one course to another.
  • Edit course activities.   
  • Organize their course (Modules).
  • Share course material (Pages, File Manager, and Publish).
  • View the course as a student.
  • Review and update their course using our provided checklist.
  • State where they find Canvas support.
