What internet browsers can I use the Web Grading Sync tool with?

Some browser settings may restrict access to the Web Grading Sync tool. If you experience issues with the Web Grading Sync tool in Safari, please try again using Google Chrome.

When can I start syncing my grades to the Registrar’s Web Grading System?

The grading schedule varies by semester. Review the current semester’s Grade Processing Calendar on the Faculty Grading website for more information.

Why don’t I see any sections listed when I click on Web Grading Sync?

To determine why, click Only Syncable from the Show: drop down menu, and choose All Sections. Some of your sections may be grayed out for the following reasons:

Error Explanation
Grade roster not created Web Grading has not been opened by the Registrar for this class yet. Review the grade processing calendar for specific dates.
Grades already entered Grades were already entered in Web Grading. If you wish to overwrite the grades, you must change the Approval Status in Web Grading to “Not Reviewed” and then try syncing again.
Not authorized You do not have permission to enter grades for this class in Web Grading.

If you do not see any sections, this means that you do not have grading access to that section in Canvas. If you need access, work with an Instructor in the course to adjust your Canvas role. Review the Canvas Roles and Permissions page for more information.

Who is able to see and use the Web Grading Sync tool in my course?

Students will not see the tool. When accessing the tool, users will only see the sections they have grading access to in Canvas. However, users must also have access to enter grades in these sections in the Registrar’s Web Grading System in order to sync those sections.

How do I know whether I should choose to “Treat ungraded items as zeros” or “Drop ungraded items”?

Review the Canvas - Ungraded Items tutorial for more information.

I’ve entered grades for the “Test Student” in my course. Will this cause issues when using the Web Grading Sync tool?

No. The Web Grading Sync tool will not include the Test Student when syncing grade rosters.

Does the Web Grading Sync tool make any changes to my gradebook?

No. The tool only sends your student’s ID numbers and final grades to the Registrar’s Web Grading system.

Do I have to use the Web Grading Sync tool?

While you are not required to use the Web Grading Sync tool, it will make the process of getting your grades into the Registrar’s Web Grading System easier.

If you would prefer not to use the tool, you can export your Canvas gradebook and manually clean up the file to import into the Registrar’s Web Grading System yourself. The Canvas - Export for Web Grading tutorial illustrates how.

Can I use the Web Grading Sync tool multiple times?

Yes. You can use the Web Grading Sync tool to sync your students’ final grades as many times as you would like.
