Kaltura is a hosting service that we have contracted with to provide rich media streaming services. It allows for uploading, editing and managing rich media content for campus colleges, schools, departments and groups. It allows for integration with the campus online learning environment (Desire2Learn) and with campus websites. It allows for media such as video, audio, photographs to be stored and presented in a variety of way to benefit faculty, students, campus affiliates and external viewers.
A maximum approaching 2 GB worth of data may be uploaded into Kaltura at a given time. If you get any error upon uploading, please check the file size. If the file is too large there are free programs such as iMovie (for Mac) and Live Movie Maker (for Windows) that will edit files down in size. If further assistance is needed, a media preparation service is offered (for a fee) at the Norlin Library e-reserves.
There are no file size limits for files uploaded to D2L; however, the ability to upload large files is influenced by your Internet connection and web browser. If a file is too large, the browser may time out or stop the upload.

While photos may be uploaded into Kaltura from within D2L, users will need to contact the IT Service Center to manually insert those photos into their D2L course. Work on this functionality is still in progress with Desire2Learn.
Zoom does not include a “credential passing” Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) integration with Desire2Learn. However, D2L’s “content” link posting can be used to share a link to a Zoom meeting. No. Grades and other sensitive information should be password protected and sent via a more secure route than an email message. OIT recommends using the Large File Transfer service to more securely send grade files.
