‘Accessible’ means a person with a disability is afforded the opportunity to acquire the same information, engage in the same interactions, and enjoy the same services as a person without a disability in an equally effective and equally inclusive manner, with substantially equivalent ease of use.
To use an assistive device with Piazza, users should enable Universal Access (also referred to as Piazza Lite). Instructions for enabling this functionality are available on the Piazza Accessibility page.
Posts viewed via Universal Access have different URLs than posts viewed in the classic version of Piazza. To address this issue, we suggest that both students and instructors reference the title of the post to which they are linking directly. For example, “Please see the follow up comments in post ‘Question on Homework 1’”. This will help everyone find the post.
It is important to note that students and instructors often use @ notation to refer to posts (for instance, “Please see post @299”) in their posts, but these are not used in Universal Access. As mentioned above, to ensure that everyone can find the post, it should be referred to by title rather than post number.
The following search filters may assist students with navigating through posts.
|If you type:||You'll see:|
|Office hours||Only results that contain office and hours|
|Office | hours||Results that contain office or hours|
|Office -hours||Only results that contain office but not hours|
|"Office hours"||Only results with the exact phrase "office hours"|
|subject:"Office hours"||Posts with the title "Office hours"|
|contributor:"Mathew Ewer"||Posts with contributions by Mathew Ewer|
|folder:hw1||Posts within the folder "hw1"|
In the Universal Access view, students and instructors do not currently receive notification emails if they are added to groups. As a result of this limitation, instructors should not use the group functionality if a student in the course uses assistive technology, particularly screen readers.
If you are using Piazza in your course, please place the following statement in your syllabus:
This course requires the use of Piazza, which is currently not fully accessible to users using assistive technology. If you use assistive technology to access the course material, please contact your faculty member immediately to discuss.
We will be working with CU Boulder’s Accessibility and Usability Lab to test the accessibility of Piazza. We will work with Piazza to resolve any issues that are found, and will update this page as additional information becomes available.
OIT has partnered with Disability Services to provide assistance for accessibility issues related to OIT supported services and we want to hear from you about this service. If you need assistance using this service or you have more information about the accessibility of this service that we should share with others, please contact the IT Service Center at firstname.lastname@example.org or at 303-735-4357 (5-HELP from an on-campus phone).
You can also give Piazza feedback regarding the accessibility of the application via email.
