General FAQ

How do I access CU Boulder Identity Manager?
I'm new to the university. What do I have to do to activate my accounts?

IdentiKeys must be activated through Identity Manager at https://cuidm.colorado.edu. New faculty, staff, students, and affiliates should click on the Activate Your IdentiKey button on the login page. The activation process includes accepting a policy, setting security questions, and setting a password. Activation requires personal information like your employee or student ID number, date of birth, etc.

What do I do if I've forgotten my password?

If you need to reset your forgotten IdentiKey password, you will need your CU Login Name and the answers to your security questions. Click on the Reset Password link on the login page to get started.

If you've never logged in to Identity Manager and you need to reset your IdentiKey password, click on the Activate Your IdentiKey button on the login page. You will be guided through the activation process that entails accepting a policy, setting security questions, and setting a password. Activation requires personal information like your employee or student ID number, date of birth, etc.

Why won’t Identity Manager allow me to route my email to an off-campus email provider?

Federal legislation and System Policy require employees to conduct university business on a university-owned or controlled email account. Specifically, university policy stipulates that for faculty and staff:

University records (including email) shall be maintained in a medium owned or controlled by the university. University business shall not be conducted on private web-based electronic mail accounts, except where conducting such business on a university owned or controlled electronic mail account is impracticable. Learn more on the Retention of University Records page .

Can I change or add an alternate email address to my CU Boulder account?

Email alternate addresses can be useful when you expect to receive messages to a specific CU Boulder mail server, even though you don't have an account there. OIT can set up a routing rule without creating an account on that server to ensure your messages will be delivered (e.g. yourname@engineering.colorado.edu).

To add an alternate email address to your account, contact the IT Service Center at 303-735-4357 (5-HELP from an on campus phone) or help@colorado.edu.
