The Center for Advanced Decision Support for Water and Environmental Systems (CADSWES), a research center in the College of Engineering, develops software that is widely used for management of rivers, reservoirs and hydropower generation. Our success depends on having reliable computer systems. SIS has supported us for many years, providing server, web, security and backup services. They monitor, update, respond to emergencies quickly and at all hours, and give us information and advice about adopting new technologies. The quality of service, professionalism and responsiveness of this group is top-notch, and the price is a real bargain.

We have had a great partnership with SIS since we made the transition from in-house IT management to shared support with SIS. SIS now hosts all of our HR servers with services including Microsoft SQL and SharePoint, hosting HR’s databases and website. They are a great team to work with, knowledgeable, collaborative, professional and helpful. We are especially appreciative of them now that we no longer have to worry about our servers during flash flood warnings.

The Department of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering (CEAE) uses Shared Infrastructure Services (SIS) to maintain its Linux server bechtel.colorado.edu that provides a number of services to CEAE: (1) file backups for faculty and staff computers, (2) webpage hosting for the main webpage ceae.colorado.edu, as well as other webpages for various engineering societies, and (3) server for individual Linux client machines purchased by CEAE faculty for individual research usage. SIS also provides physical space with security, proper cooling, and power backup in which to place the server.
It is clear from the management of bechtel.colorado.edu that SIS has significant experience in Unix/Linux server software and hardware maintenance, user accounts best practices, and also installing opensource and licensed Linux software engineering programs. Without this expertise, there would be inefficient usage of faculty/postdoc/student time spent maintaining such hardware and software, and definitely not in a sustainable way (e.g., the experienced student graduates and moves on to another job, and there is a gap in the research group to maintain the Linux machines). Thus, CEAE benefits considerably from SIS managing its Linux server bechtel.colorado.edu, and its associated clients.

Shared Infrastructure Services provides professional level support for CASA’s (Center for Astrophysics and Space Astronomy) Red Hat environment, supplementing our in-house support services. This hand-in-glove partnership allows CASA researchers to focus on Astrophysics research and feel comfortable that they will receive the highest quality of customer service when they require IT assistance.
