Stephan thought that setting up his new computer was taking too long. So he skipped a few steps including enabling automatic updates. But then a coworker pointed out that enabling automatic updates for all of your applications and keeping your computer up to date is one of the best ways to avoid being infected by malware.
So Stephan went back to the programs that allowed automatic updates and enabled them, and now also monitors for updates for his other applications and applies them as soon as is prudent.
Please contact your local campus help desk if you have any questions about automatic updates or patching. Contact information is at the bottom of this email. You can also find updating recommendations and guidance in this month's newsletter.
