Top Start-of-Semester Tips for Students

Submitted by stauffeg on

It’s a new semester which brings with it new opportunities to tap into CU Boulder’s IT offerings. If you’re lucky, maybe you received some new technology over the holidays. For you, we have tips to connect and protect those new devices. But even if you didn’t get a new laptop, iphone or Xbox, this semester will bring new learning challenges and new reasons to put these IT resources to work for you.

  1. Register your portable devices in the CU Boulder laptop anti-theft registration program. Registering your devices can help prevent theft and assist in recovering your device if it is lost or stolen. Just bring your device to the Technology Learning Center or Norlin Commons Help Desk.
  2. Get free or reduced-price software like Microsoft Office and academic software like AutoCAD and Mathematica.
  3. Install campus-recommended antivirus on your new devices.
  4. Enroll or re-enroll for the mobile printing service by swiping your Buff OneCard at any print release station.
  5. Check out our D2L Start-of-Semester Tips.
  6. Students in residence halls: Register your networked gaming device on the campus network by contacting the IT Service Center at 303-735-4357.
  7. Get free training at Lynda.com for the latest software, creative and business skills.
  8. Get IT help via phone, email and walk-in support for your computing issues.
  9. Like and follow OIT on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, and sign up for the OIT News Feed or Service Alerts, so you can get the latest CUBoulder IT news and tips throughout the year.

Have a great semester, everyone!
