OIT is actively working to procure “common good” IT peripherals in bulk to distribute to instructors who do not already own the equipment needed to teach in remote or hybrid modalities. Peripheral devices include basic webcams, document cameras, and voice amplification systems. Peripherals do not include things like tablets, laptops, or storage devices. Note about USB-C adapters: OIT is not providing individual adapters to instructors. Instead, we are providing a USB-C adapter in Remote Capable Classrooms.
Peripherals are currently being distributed via contactless pickup on East Campus, by appointment. When your ticket is fulfilled and your request is ready for pickup, you will receive a confirmation with a link to a Bookings scheduling page to view available times and set your appointment. You will need to be logged into Office 365 with your CU credentials for the Bookings site to appear correctly.
Please note that same-day pickup is not currently feasible, due to the volume of requests.
Distribution of devices will be tracked to the level of the individual receiving each individual item. Because funding for this effort comes from the CARES Act, we must track allocations by individuals, roles, department, and impact on students.
Yes, all peripherals provided by this effort can be used at home. All peripherals except document cameras are meant to be kept by the instructor. Document cameras are the exception, and will need to be returned at the end of the semester.
Realistically, OIT will not be able to fulfill all the peripheral needs of departments, colleges, and schools, nor can OIT fulfill requests for a given model of a desired peripheral. Specialized equipment, as well as tablets, will have to be purchased with department funds.
Potentially partially, but only if the equipment purchased meets the above working definition of “common good” basic remote teaching technology. Other limits include OIT’s need to ensure equity in distribution of resources, so that needs are met as evenly as possible across colleges and departments, as well as overall limitations on funds being secured for this effort.
In general, departments that purchase their own equipment should do so with the expectation that those purchases will come from department funds. This is particularly true if instructors have requested specific peripheral models that go beyond fulfilling what OIT defines as “common good.”

In remote capable classrooms, microphones are built into the system and do not need to be touched by the instructor. In rooms with more traditional microphone systems, alcohol wipes are being provided. If an instructor is teaching in a room without amplification and wants the equipment, an individual voice amplifier can be requested through this project.
OIT is in the process of upgrading 366 classrooms to be hybrid, remote-capable rooms, in addition to the 40 that already exist. Some of those classrooms have been identified and are in process. Others are still being identified by Academic Scheduling and OIT.
