UCB Wireless - Help

Last Updated: 06/01/2011
Overview

To connect to the wireless network on campus:

  • you need to know your CU login name and IdentiKey password. Read more about IdentiKeys or contact the IT Service Center (303-735-HELP or 5-4357 from a campus phone) for IdentiKey assistance.
  • you need a laptop with an 802.11 internal or external Wi-Fi adapter.

CU-Boulder's wireless service is called UCB Wireless.

"UCB Wireless" is CU-Boulder's SSID.

Accessing UCB Wireless

CU-Boulder's wireless network can be identified by the SSID (or Network Name) "UCB Wireless." OIT recommends that you choose UCB Wireless as your wireless network when you are on campus.

IP Address Range for UCB Wireless

The IP address rang for UCB wireless is 172.23.x.x (172.23.0.0/16). This means that anyone who is restricting access to their services by IP address as a means for ensuring that they are only accessed from on-campus should allow the UCB Wireless IP address range also since UCB Wireless is only routed locally. When on-campus wireless clients try to reach off-campus Internet services, these private addresses are translated (using Network Address Translation, or NAT) to public IP addresses of 128.138.64.x or 128.138.65. Off-campus service providers may need this address range.
